Is Fibromyalgia A Disability? Part 2
Is Fibromyalgia A Disability Part 2
I can tell you first hand how fibromyalgia limits my ability to work. Sitting at a desk for long periods of time can be very painful. Manual labor is something I wouldn’t go near. I can barely get out of the bed in the morning so there’s no way that I’m going to do manual labor. I even try to stay away from jobs that require you to have mental clarity because fibro fog makes it difficult to concentrate and multi task. I have tried working customer service but it was such a struggle I had to take a leave of absence. The pain from sitting there, for 8 hours a day with two 15 minute breaks and a 30 min lunch, caused me to have pain that was constant. I needed to get up and walk at least every hour or else I would get restless leg syndrome. If anyone of you have had restless leg syndrome you know how torturous it can be. I wasn’t able to get up and walk so I had no choice but to resign. I was sad that I had to leave my job. I was doing very good with my job and handled all the customers with care. I’m one of those people that actually liked my job, for the most part. My body had other plans for me which didn’t include working.
I eventually decided to go back to work because I ended up getting bored. I figured I have my body enough rest and it was time to get back on my grind. Alhamdulillah I started working as a chat agent, no phone 😀. The one thing I hated about my previous job was having to talk on the phones. I never liked the fact that people would be able to hear in my voice how I felt. I am doing much better on chat than when I first decided to go back to work. Multitasking is still an issue for me but I’m pushing through it. I’ve tried to develop a routine which helps me multitask and focus on my duties. Overall I think I’m doing a good job managing my job and also fibromyalgia.
For those of you that are able to work you have my applause. I am glad to know that some people with fibromyalgia are able to work without any problems. Fibromyalgia has such an effect on your body it’s great you’re rocking it. Keep up the good work. Until next time…
